Village of Swanton – Formal Opposition to Proposed Extended Power Outage Standards

Please see the attached. This is a formal letter that has been issued directly to Toledo Edison/FirstEnergy on behalf of the Village of Swanton outlining our strong opposition to proposals that would permit longer and more frequent power outages, as well as documenting the ongoing impacts our community has experienced since October 10 due to repeated substation failures and service interruptions.

The Village of Swanton believes reliable electric service is essential to public health, safety, and economic stability. Given the prolonged and compounding effects these outages have had on municipal infrastructure, local businesses, and residents—particularly during winter conditions—we felt it necessary to place our position clearly and publicly on the record.

We respectfully request that this letter be reviewed and considered as part of any regulatory, legislative, or operational discussions related to electric service reliability standards. All that have been cc’d on the attached letter have been emailed.
